Windsurf Praiano, located at the Marina di Praia is now listing SUPs for rent by the hour or 3 hrs at a time available at Positano, Praiano and Amalfi. The Amalfi Coast is best seen from the water. Get out and SUP! Do pay attention to the water currents and waves. The choppiest water I’ve ever SUP’d on was in Positano. But it does have calm times!
As SUP is becoming more popular in southern Italy, I’m excited to report a new rental locale in Ischia. SUP Ischia is located at Via Maronti, 72, Barano d’Ischia. Rent a board or go for an excursion to Elephant Cave.
A quick drive from Naples, just north of Benevento, is the Matese National Forest. With clean mountain air, stunning views, deep gorges, tall mountains and beautfiul valleys, it’s a place worth discovering. Matese Escursioni offers various outdoor guided activities in the Matese National Forest, including horse back riding, biking, hiking, canyoning, parco avventura (kids rope courses) to name a few. We chose canyoning, suited up with our kids and headed to the top of the gorge “Gole di Caccaviola, Cusano Mutri”. We took our SUPs (Stand Up Paddleboards) out to my favorite local place to get in a paddleboard this morning. We arrived early around 7:45am to beat beach traffic, but found out the local parking lots don’t open until 8:30am. In July and August, 8:30am is too late to get on the water as the boat traffic starts getting heavy. So we found street parking. Remember to pay for street parking by buying a parking biglietto at the local bar/cafe. It cost 2 euro/hour this morning. Continue reading SUP Paddleboard from Miseno to Baia Castle→
From the island of Procida, spend a glorious day upon a sail boat stacked with kayaks and head to Capri. Launching kayaks along the amazing waters of Capri, explore caves, amazing Capri coast and the famous Faraglioni di Capri from the water in kayak. After working up an appetite, eat the most amazing homemade italian food on board and cruise back to Procida. If you are lucky like us, you may have dolphins decide to surf in your boat wake on the way back. Continue reading Sail from Procida to Capri, then kayak Capri and it’s famous Faraglioni→
Be a part of a large group of local kayakers exploring the coast of Naples on June 20, 2015 or come out and watch. There will be a ton of kayakers in the water. The course is below. Starting in Nisida, they will paddle the bay of Naples and back. I’m hoping to be part of this and will post pics!
Throughout Italy, there are hidden gems called Parco Avventura or parchi avventura. These adventure parks are usually off the beaten path, but worth the stop if you love ropes courses or you need your kids to burn off some energy. They offer various courses starting with a climb or rock wall, continuing with ropes or elevated obstacle courses and usually end with a zip line. Some parks also have separate courses for archery and go kart driving. We always try to incorporate a Parco Avventura stop when we take road trips, to give our boys something to look forward to. Each park is different and offers courses of various difficulties for various ages. Continue reading Parco Avventura – Ropes / Adventure courses throughout Italy (for kids and adults)→
This is the second time I’ve done a SUP (Stand Up Paddling) tour with this company and it is one of my favorites. The water has been very calm both times and the views are amazing. They launch from Hotel Cetus (parking is at the hotel) near Cetara and have 2 options to go towards the beach in Vietri or to go around the cape past Erchie. Both directions take 2 hours are amazingly awesome. The trip to and from Vietri is a bit easier as you’re more protected and the water is generally calmer. In the afternoons, the wind picks up near Cetara. Morning tours are best. The guides carry insurance, follow along in a boat and take pictures. The company provides the SUP boards, paddles, life jackets and safety leashes. Great experience. I’ve been talking to them about rates, so if you’d like to book, mention me (Julie) when you email or call Giusy for better rates or contact me and I’ll help you schedule a tour. They do provide a guide that can give instructions. Amazing and a MUST DO! Minimum 2 people, maximum 5 people. Rates vary from €45-55 per person, depending on number in group. As part of the Wine & The City event in Napoli during the month of May, wine tasting tours are offered via Vespa (with an italian driver). This only occurs in May each year and is only 6 days, mainly on weekends. I have to say it was one of the best tours I’ve done in Naples. If you have to choose, the Posillipo tour is spent more on the Vespa. The Vomero tour is less time on the Vespa, more time walking. In fact, people joined our tour as a walking tour. If I had the choice, I would pick the Posillipo option again. Continue reading Vino e Vespa Tour Napoli – Posillipo or Vomero→
